After some of you were able to take a "trip" to Colombia with us this week, we were wondering about everyone's real travel experiences.
What do you think are the best international travel destinations and why? If you haven't traveled anywhere, where do you want to go? What cultures do you want to learn about and why?

There are so many great international destinations out there...it all really depends on what you want to experience. For me, I love places where I can be lazy and relax, and others where I can really indulge in adventure. I have been to Bali, Indonesia twice, and have enjoyed inexpensive (and fabulous) spa treatments and very comfortable hotel rooms while enjoying its beaches and forests at a leisurely pace. I have also had the thrill of skydiving in New Zealand and "roughing it" for four days on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru.
I also appreciate the not-so-glamorous experiences I have had overseas, like ordering ice cream in Paris using my limited French, braving bus trips in North and South India, getting lost on the streets of Rome, and chatting with people from all over the world during layovers at numerous airports.
I think that travelling overseas is one of the truest learning experiences you can have. It really is about self-discovery, outside of your comfort zone. I know many people who don't have the desire to travel internationally, or only want to experience the familiar wherever they go. To each his and her own, I guess, but it is not what authentic international travel is all about.
I've only ever traveled outside the U.S. as part of an organized group. I've been to Canda, Mexico, South Africa and Zambia. This has been great, because there's a depth of experience that comes from being shown around by locals who take you off of the beaten "touristy" path, and/or accompanied by people who know the local language.
However, I would also love to just jet off somewhere alone and have individual explorations in some exotic locale. Someday, I hope to do that! I'd like to eventually get to Australia, Cameroon, Colombia, Egypt/North Africa, England/Europe and various Asian locales.
